Pollution

Studies have shown that eighty percent of pollution to the marine environment actually comes from the land.  Most of the waste we produce on land eventually reaches the ocean, either through dumping or spilling through drains and rivers.

Whether you are ashore or at sea, it is every individual’s responsibility to keep our earth clean and free from pollution.

Seafarers will know that every ship have their own set of house rules and specific plans detailing the operational and emergency discharges of pollution.  Some of these comprise of:

  • Air pollution measure
  • Sewage treatment and discharge
  • Garbage management plan
  • Oil and chemical discharge
  • Packaging, labeling and storage of hazardous goods

Usually the engineering or catering departments will oversee the execution of these measures.

Share with us what are some of the anti-pollution procedures you adhere to while working on board the ship.
