What to Eat For Healthy Eyes

People usually believe with old age comes failing eyesight.  As a matter of fact healthy eyesight can be achieved and maintained with a healthy lifestyle and diet.

There are some nutrient-rich foods which you can incorporate into your diet to boost your eye health and these nutritious foods can be easily found on board the ship.

  • Fish

The rich content of omega-3 fatty acids in some fishes is beneficial for your eye health.  Some studies have shown that fish oil can reverse dry eye, and that includes dry eye caused by spending long hours in front of the computer.  Some of the fishes which contain high levels of omega-3 acids are anchovies, sardines, salmon, tuna and herring.

  • Leafy Green Vegetables

When mommy tells us to eat our greens we should listen to her because mom knows best.  Leafy green vegetables are rich in lutein and zeaxanthin and they are essential for healthy pair of eyes.  Some of the well-known leafy greens which you can include in your diet are kale and spinach.

  • Eggs

Another food with excellent source of lutein and zeaxanthin is egg.  It can help in lowering the risk of age-related sight deterioration.  Eggs are also rich in vitamins C and E and Zinc.

  • Nut and Legumes

Nuts are rich in omega-3 acids and they are useful in protecting the eye from age-induced damage.  So load up on the walnuts,  peanuts, cashews and lentils.

  • Strawberries

The juicy strawberry contains plenty of vitamin C which is an antioxidant in helping to lower the risk of cataracts.  Some other vitamin C-rich foods which you can add into your diet are bell peppers, broccoli and grapefruit.
