Do you know that June 25 is observed worldwide as the Day of the Seafarer? The International Maritime Organization (IMO) decided in 2010 to designate June 25 as International Day of the Seafarer. This move is to recognize the unique contribution to global society and economy by seafarers all over the world.
There are different campaigns for each year’s Day of the Seafarer and we are celebrating gender equality in the maritime world for 2019.
The 2019 campaign is – I am On Board with Gender Equality
In 2019 there has been a strong emphasis in the maritime industry on the importance and value of women within the professional ranks. This highlights the contributions made by the women in the maritime industry and also exploring further opportunities for them in the seafaring community. This year’s theme raises awareness of the importance of gender equality in the maritime sector.
