How to Keep Fit and Healthy On Board the Ship

Staying fit and healthy is really the pertinent element of any person.  It is especially so for a seafarer who spend long period of time on board the ship.  Being in tip top health and fitness condition allows seafarers to perform their duties efficiently and in turn reduce the risk of accidents and incidents on board.

  1. Detoxify

To cleanse your body of toxins is as simple as drinking eight glasses of water a day.  By eliminating your body of toxins your immune system can remain healthy and you will not fall sick easily.

  1. Eat Right

Usually the meals on board the ship are quite healthy as ship owners will want the Chief Cook to prepare well-balanced nutritional meals for the crew so that the crews are kept healthy and they can perform their duties better.  Eat plenty of fish, lean meats, fruits and vegetables.

  1. Cut Down on Carbonated Drinks

All carbonated drinks use carbonic acid and some contains a small amount of phosphoric and citric acid that can irritate the gastric glands.  These drinks are also loaded with calories and that means that you will be piling on the weight should you chug carbonated drinks often.

  1. Be Positive

Be adaptable to changes and welcome innovations.  Change is the only thing that is constant.  Having a positive attitude and mentality on board the ship is important and can help you adapt quickly to the ever-changing environment out at sea.

Be active on board the ship.  Be it walking, jogging, pumping iron at the gym or even aerobics with your fellow ship mate, it is good to sweat it out to burn some calories and expel the toxins from the body.
