HPC and Roland Berger to undergo study on the restructuring of Port of Beirut
Hamburg Port Consulting (HPC) has joined Roland Berger, the Munich-based international management consultancy, to initiate a study for the restructuring, construction, and operations of Beirut port following the recent chemical explosion incident. They aim to achieve better integration of the Port area into the city of Beirut.
The study will also focus on tackling the overall investment and financing of the reconstructing options.
Suheil Mahayni, Managing Director at HPC, said, “We have been shocked by the devastating explosion that occurred on 4 August. Given our longstanding relations with Beirut, we immediately offered our support and help.”
The Mediterranean and the Middle East are two important Trade hubs for many shippers. This had caused a significant issue for them by having no access to and from the sea and city, making it challenging for any cargoes to pass through.
According to Port Technology, the two consultancies will work together to address questions on efficiency, transparency, and overall financing.
With over 20 years of relationship with the Port of Beirut, HPC will support the port in improving its terminal efficiencies and transparencies. HPC has also introduced suitable stakeholders and consulting services to remove hazardous goods within the port. On the other hand, Roland Berger will advise on the strategic positioning and the institutional setup.
The first results of the current study are expected to be discussed within weeks after and the initiatives will be made available to the public once they are finalised.
