Helping seafarers stay connected this Lunar New Year

Inmarsat continues its kind gesture to seafarers this Chinese New Year

Crew spends months at a time at sea, and being away from family and friends during special events like Chinese New Year can make the distance even harder. This Spring festival, the company continues to facilitate communication between crew at sea and families.

Never far away from home
The unsung heroes of global supply chains are not forgotten despite the major holidays. Following closely on its findings on importance of connectivity for seafarers, Inmarsat offered free internet to crew onboard last Christmas. Global seafarers onboard could be in touch with families and friends, and enjoy music streaming.

This Chinese New Year, seafarers can get 33 per cent off through extra talk-time on FleetBroadband and Fleet Xpress ChatCards, as another thank you gesture from Inmarsat. The promotion is valid from 31 January – 6 February 2022. In addition, all 1GB and 5 hour new Fleet Hotspot allowances purchased by seafarers from the Fleet Hotspot portal onboard during the same period will be available for US$10 instead of the usual US$15.

Powered by Inmarsat’s Fleet Xpress service, Fleet Hotspot is a Wi-Fi portal for crew, independent of a vessel’s bandwidth, providing them with the freedom to manage internet access on their own devices. Inmarsat owns and operates global satellite networks. This connectivity initiative enjoyed tremendous success in 2021 – prompting the company to continue its efforts to thank the seafarers for their dedication onboard.
