Annual global fundraising campaign by Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) returns
The annual global fundraiser campaign, EPS Around The World fundraiser, is back. This year’s fundraiser will help to support the wellbeing of seafarers around the world. From 2 – 22 February 2022, the international maritime community can play their part to participate in the fundraising by clocking mileage through walking, running, or cycling 100,000 km to raise funds for The Mission to Seafarers, a notable global charity that champions support for seafarers’ wellbeing.
Campaign inspired by the late Sammy Ofer KBE (1922 – 2011)
The late Sammy Ofer was a shipping magnate, seafarer advocate, and philantrophist, who would have celebrated his centenarian birthday come 22 February 2022, and this fundraising campaign was held to commemorate his life and legacy. In the words of his son Idan Ofer, founder of EPS, “My father believed in seafarer wellbeing throughout his entire career, and this fundraiser represents everything he stood for – community, collaboration, and caring. This fundraiser is an amazing opportunity for everyone to play a small role in making a real difference in people’s lives.”
To start with, EPS has pledged S$250,000 to the campaign and has seen over S$700,000 committed thus far. EPS CEO Cyril Ducau has also urged the maritime community to do their part in supporting this good cause, “Recording 100,000 km and raising S$1 million dollars is going to require collective buy-in from the maritime industry. We call on the EPS community, partners, friends and family to join our dedicated Strava clubs to help us reach 100,000 km.”
Participants can join the campaign by download the Strava app and join the official EPS Walk/Run Club and EPS Cycle Club to start clocking the mileages for the fundraising.
